I'm going to stay with my recommendation: In the new iMacs, the slots are no longer two rows or two side-by-side slots, but now there are 4 vertical slots. Apple pairs them (usually) in slots 1 and 3 and you can add RAM in slots 2 and 4. However, if Apple put theirs in 2 and 4, it shouldn't matter: you can add yours in 1 and 3.
